When the Harry Potter series first came out, I had hoped that Harry would wind up with Luna because I felt that the two characters connected on a deeper level and she would be able to use her empathic nature to help Harry heal from all of the trauma he has suffered. I had to watch as one of my favorite characters snogged a person who was a complete bully and an obnoxious jock. In my opinion, Rowling created a Mary Sue and forgot the main rule of writing: show, not tell. The first time Harry met Ginny, she acted like a typical teeny-bopper meeting her childhood crush. No, it was always about how beautiful her hair was or how pretty her eyes were. How is that the basis of a romantic relationship? Harry is a total hypocrite when it comes to his romantic relationship with Ginny.

With the film series really making the franchise popular, the idea we had of these couples was magnified. The first time she and Harry interacted, she ran out of the room without a word. Following this, Ginny never had anything to say other than blush. When they grew up a bit, her feelings only intensified until they got together. That was when she was ten-years-old and Harry was on his way to Hogwarts for the first time.
As luck would have it, he asked Mrs. Weasley for help and Ron, recognizing the boy he saw on the platform, chose to sit with Harry on the train. Had Ron not done this, Harry would never have become his best friend and never visited the Weasley house on a frequent basis, thereby setting up his eventual falling for Ginny. Due to this, Ginny was pretty much an absentee character around this time. Maybe it was easy for her to forget the fact that she carried the children for nine months and gave birth to them, and thought it was cool that Harry named the first two boys after deceased people— the second of which was named after the bully of a Potions teacher in school.
Honestly, it makes you want to slap your face in exasperation. Nice way of repaying all the kindness the Weasleys showed you, Harry. Ginny gave him a long kiss as a birthday present much better than the crappy book Ron gave him , and the two would reunite in a romantic manner at the Battle of Hogwarts. Or maybe Harry overestimated his importance and Voldemort couldn’t care less about his dating life.
OotP – Chapter 38 – Ginny surprises Ron
It was the Saturday following Harry’s birthday, and Ginny and Hermione were in Fred and George’s new shop, “Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes”, the lively new centerpiece of a Diagon Alley that seemed to otherwise be living in constant fear of Death Eater attacks. The Weasleys, Harry, and Hermione had come to Diagon Alley to stock up on supplies for the coming term, and the twin’s new store was the last stop of the day.
The two teenage girls were poring over something called “Patented Daydream Charms”, which were what was currently amazing Hermione. The claim being made by the makers of the charm who just happened to be Ginny’s surprisingly industrious elder twin brothers was that each charm would provide a realistic minute daydream for the user, which seemed just the thing to make one of Professor Binn’s History of Magic lectures almost bearable.
Ginny Weasley’s first romantic entanglement is an enthrallment with Harry Potter which visibly continues throughout the first four books. She remains unattached and taken with Harry until she hooks up with Michael Corner , a Ravenclaw student. Then Ginny begins dating Dean Thomas. —I only remembered that it was mostly about the portrayal of Ginny. This is the rub of trying to translate Half-Blood Prince to film; of all the Potter stories HERMIONE is the one to tell Harry that Ron is ok with him dating Ginny!
The Harry Potter franchise is one of the most popular and important book series in modern history. But the books also provide a sense of wonder and gave a charming story to the world’s children. But even the most devoted Potterhead will admit that there are some issues with its world. One aspect of the series that always causes debate amount Potter fans is Harry’s relationship with Ginny. Sometimes you have to ask why these two ended up together at all! If you do ship them, then great.
They canonically ended up together, so nothing I can say can take that away from you. But the best way to support your fandom is to embrace its flaws. No relationship is perfect, even those in the wizarding world. Unless there is some kind of perfect marriage potion. Which frankly would devalue every successful marriage in the franchise. Think about who you were obsessed with when you were eleven.
Now imagine being married to them.

Ginevra Molly Weasley is a fictional character in J. Rowling ‘s Harry Potter novel series. Ginny is introduced in the first book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone , as the youngest sibling and only girl in the Weasley family. She becomes Harry ‘s main love interest and eventually marries him at the conclusion of the series. Ginny Weasley is a pureblood witch born on 11 August , the seventh child and only daughter of Arthur and Molly Weasley.
According to J. Rowling, “the backstory with Ginny was, she was the first girl to arrive in the Weasley family in generations, but there’s that old tradition of the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter and a seventh son of a seventh son, so that’s why she’s the seventh, because she is a gifted witch. I think you get hints of that, because she does some pretty impressive stuff here and there”.
In a joint interview with The Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet , Rowling revealed that she “always knew” that Ginny and Harry “were going to come together and then part. Rowling stated that Harry “needs to be with someone who can stand the demands of being with Harry Potter, because he’s a scary boyfriend in a lot of ways. After realizing Harry’s identity, Ginny asks her mother if she can board the Hogwarts Express to see him. During the climax of the story, it is revealed that she opened the Chamber of Secrets , and is attacking Muggle-born students while being possessed by Tom Riddle’s old school diary.
